Edward Weston
Cabbage Leaf, 1931, it is a picture of a cabbage, it has a lot of hard light as the leading lines really show the veins of the cabbage leaf. It has interesting texture. It has low resolution as this image was taken in 1931. It has been take in a studio with a plain black background to highlight the veins of the cabbage leaf. The photograph is quite blurry which could have been caused by the camera moving during the photograph or the camera's in those days having low resolution. This photography makes me feel sad as it is dark and just looks like the cabbage leaf is alone as there is only one. This photograph relates to my project as the leaf is organic and we are doing a organic themed course.
This is mushroom 1940, it has hard light and it is very interesting as you can see the veins of the mushroom, which really emphasis the detail of the photograph. My instant reactions to this photograph are:
.crisp
.sharp
.compelling
This image is about a mushroom with a surrealism theme. This photograph has also been taken in a studio, like the cabbage leaf, this is also relating to the organic theme i am doing. I like the sharpness of the image as this really shows the veins and a i think it has a sort of leading line effect to it, but i don't like that the sides of the image have been cut off of the photograph.
The shell, 1927
instant reactions:
.dramatic
.leading lines
.pure nature
It makes me feel like nature is sculpturing shells. The photograph is a shell with leading lines and has a centre focus. This photograph reminds me of the beach as you find shells all over the beach but also that it is organic like my other two photographs. My personal opinion is that he has used some fascinating techniques, for example the leading lines leading you from the outside of the shell to the centre of the shell. Edward Weston has inspired me to do a photograph like this of a shell, like all the others as he has used some interesting techniques and it makes me feel like i should remake these photographs.
